New Detroit Lions Cornerback Kindle Vildor Poised for Action Against Former Team

Lions' Recent Addition Kindle Vildor Set to Shine Against Chicago Bears: Coach Campbell Weighs In

Detroit Lions Cornerback Kindle Vildor

In a recent under-the-radar move, the Detroit Lions added cornerback Kindle Vildor to their 53-man roster from the practice squad. This unexpected promotion raised eyebrows, especially with defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna seemingly a likely candidate. However, Lions coach Dan Campbell shed light on the decision, emphasizing Vildor's athleticism, versatility, and competitive spirit.

Vildor, a fifth-round pick for the Chicago Bears in 2020, brings experience from his three-year stint, playing 44 games and starting 22. Despite being waived by the Bears in the latest cuts, the Lions recognized his potential, securing him on the practice squad on November 14.

Coach Campbell praised Vildor's skills, stating, "He really fits what we do because he can do a little bit of everything. He’s tough, he’ll tackle, so we play him in a variety of coverages. Also, he’s a smart, crafty guy with cover skills."

The Lions' secondary has faced challenges in recent weeks, evident in opposing quarterbacks' strong performances. The defense allowed notable statistics, including Justin Herbert's 323 yards and 4 TDs, Justin Fields' 169 yards and 1 TD, Jordan Love's 268 yards and 3 TDs, and Derek Carr's 226 yards and 1 TD.

Last week's game against the Saints was particularly challenging, with the Lions struggling on third downs. Coach Campbell acknowledged the learning curve for young players, stating, "There's a couple of young guys making errors they shouldn't make, and they're going to learn from it."

Both Lions outside cornerbacks, Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs, have faced difficulties this season. Sutton earned a 59.1 PFF coverage grade, allowing a 103.6 passer rating when targeted. Jacobs faced similar struggles, with a 55.6 PFF coverage grade and a 103.4 passer rating allowed.

When questioned about Vildor's potential defensive role against his former team, Coach Campbell remained coy, stating, "He might, he might. He's been competing and he's been taking some reps, so we'll see." Regardless, Vildor is likely to contribute on special teams, leveraging his experience in various roles during his tenure with the Bears.

As the Lions prepare for upcoming matchups, Vildor's presence adds an intriguing dynamic to the defensive lineup. The game against the Chicago Bears could mark a significant opportunity for Vildor to showcase his skills against familiar faces and make a lasting impact in his new role with the Detroit Lions.
